Purpose

We are looking for a hands-on IT Network & System Administrator to maintain and improve our UK-site IT infrastructure. The role combines day-to-day IT support with the installation, administration and maintenance of operating systems, servers, applications, virtualisation, networks and backup systems, ensuring reliable performance and service continuity.

You will also contribute to infrastructure upgrades and projects, working closely with local business stakeholders and global teams.

Please note: Candidates must be eligible for SC and NPPV3 clearance, requiring five years’ continuous UK residency; criminal convictions may impact approval. This is a fully on-site position at our office in Winnersh.

Key Missions

  • Respond to day-to-day IT needs on site, prioritising requests according to business requirements and supporting local users with laptop set-up, software installations, Microsoft 365 and technical issues.
  • Maintain, administer and monitor Windows and Linux systems, network infrastructure, firewalls, switches, storage, virtualisation and backup solutions to support secure, reliable IT services.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical incidents, working with users, global IT support and operations teams, and external vendors to identify root causes and restore services.
  • Independently carry out complex systems administration and networking tasks, ensuring configurations meet business needs and agreed service levels for continuity, availability and performance.
  • Plan and maintain IT service availability in line with business requirements, including appropriate redundancy, backup and recovery arrangements; support on-call arrangements where applicable.
  • Acquire, install, configure and upgrade IT hardware, software and licences, and maintain accurate IT asset and inventory records.
  • Support infrastructure deployments, upgrades, system migrations and other technology projects, collaborating with local business stakeholders and international IT colleagues.
  • Follow IT governance, change management, root cause analysis and documentation processes, and maintain clear, up-to-date technical and operational records.
  • Apply company security and safety standards, alongside relevant regulatory and legal requirements, across day-to-day IT activities.
  • Keep up to date with technology developments, align local solutions with IDEMIA and divisional IT strategy, and propose improvements to systems, processes and monitoring.
  • Work closely with vendors, internal stakeholders and global support teams to deliver projects and resolve recurring issues; share knowledge and support less experienced colleagues.

Profile & Other Information

Candidates must have solid hands-on experience in at least three of the following six areas - you do not need to be an expert in every technology:

  • Windows systems administration
  • Linux systems administration
  • Networking, including switches and firewalls (Aruba switches and Cisco firewalls are used)
  • Storage administration
  • Virtualisation (VMware)
  • Backup and recovery (Veeam)

What we are looking for

  • At least 5 years practical experience in systems administration, network administration or IT infrastructure support.
  • Confidence in troubleshooting both infrastructure and end-user IT problems in an on-site environment.
  • A proactive, curious and monitoring-focused approach, with willingness to learn technologies beyond your current specialism.
  • Ability to work independently on site while collaborating effectively with remote and international technical colleagues.
  • Good communication skills and a practical, service-minded approach to supporting users and business stakeholders.
  • The right to work in the UK and the ability to meet the security clearance requirements applicable to the position.

Desirable experience

  • Hands-on exposure to Cisco firewalls, Aruba switching, VMware or Veeam.
  • Experience contributing to infrastructure deployments, upgrades or migrations.
